Went to Asbury Park this weekend to scout for the tour with Liz, so I didn't get anything else done until today. It was nice to take a few days off. But now I pretty much have to dive back in full force. This would be easier if it weren't totally disgusting all the time.

But I put up the first chapter so what people can download it if they want. Or tell other people, "Yo, it's quality," and then have instant proof.

14 pages totally done

4 pages to write
2 to rewrite because they don't totally suck but they could be way better
11 pages to pencil
14ish to ink
some small pieces of background to finish on about 4 pages
25 to tone (with watercolors)
plus some minor stuff to incorporate into the book design which will probably be like a day's worth of work

Also, working on getting Ch. 1 online as a pdf. Almost there! Just need to finish coding a page for it with stuff.

So there would have been another photo, since some decent progess has been made, but by the time I left it was too dark to take a picture without the lights that had to be turned off all day since there was an electrical fire in one of the lights. I missed the commotion (of FOUR fire trucks!) but did get to smell it for the rest of the day.

Some progress, not as much as I'd like. Two more pages have been pencilled and partially inked since then, but it is taking SO LONG. argh.

But I gave Matt B the cover stuff tonight to scan, so I can get that put together soon. And dudes! If you are unfamiliar with the crazy awesome stuff he's been posting on comictool.blogspot.com, he's taken all the art knowledge crammed in his brain and unleashed it, in blog form.

Progress?

Starting tomorrow, I'm throwing down! Two pages a day for a week! YEAH! I'm making comics my bitch! Suck it, comics!

And I'm trying out a time-lapse thing with my wall.

NYC Zinefest!

We went in with pretty low expectations, but as with a Liz Baillie haircut (which I also got on Saturday) if you go in with low expectations, you won't be disappointed. Saturday was kind of slow, but since tables were so cheap, we made our money back, and then Sunday was totally killer! I'd brought a page to work on both days, so if it turned out to be way slow, it wouldn't be a total loss of a day. I also brought a page to get a bunch of other people to contribute graffiti to (it's a highway rest stop men's stall door) and got contributions from my tablemates, plus Joe Flood & Liz. C., Jamie Tanner, GB Tran, Matt Wiegel, Jen Vaughn, and Dennis Pachenco. So many penises...

So it wasn't a total waste of the weekend, and comics got out to people who otherwise might not have checked them out. There was air conditioning, and though the aisles and space between tables could have been a little wider, the space was really nice, and seriously, the table was $90 for the both days! And the tables were 8 feet long! Liz said she did proportional to MoCCA for the table cost, and while we did slightly better there, we actually covered the cost of attending zinefest. Plus, while there were a few nice looking books, I didn't really buy much, so that was awesome. Plus, no pressure to go out and do stuff afterwards, so on Saturday night I went home and made noodles and Liz watched Degrassi and then cut my hair. Total cost: some wine. After Heroes last week, it's a welcome break from spending. Now I have the summer to save up and work and not spend money until I go on tour. Which is starting to come together amazingly well. I don't want to blow the surprise yet, but if you're planning to be at SPX... make sure your plans include going to Atomic Books on Friday night. Just, seriously, be there, you will not regret it.

Also, this haircut is totally sweet and everytime I'm walking somewhere and I feel the breeze on my head, it feels way awesome. It's a nice change from heat with my crazy thick hair.
